A whole day to explore Mahabaleshwar, Our first halt will be Old Mahabaleshwar Temple – The legendary source of the river Krishna is a spout from the mouth of a cow’s statue in the ancient temple of Mahadev. Arthur’s Seat (1470m) is Queen of all points., Lodwick Point (1239 m) – Elephant’s Head Point a familiar name. From one specific point, on a clear day, you one can see Pratapgad from here.
In the second half of the day, we visit Pratap Garh – Pratapgarh, a mighty hill fort built by Shivaji in 1656-58 AD, is 24kms west of Mahabaleshwar, The most important event connected with Pratapgarh is the Shivaji-Afzal Khan episode. The base of this fort that Shivaji, on 10the November 1659, scored a historic victory against the mighty Afzal Khan, commander of the Bijapur Adishahi forces. The episode, in which Afzal Khan was overpowered and killed by Shivaji, is well known. In the evening take a last stroll of the Mall road to buy some unique products of Mahabaleshwar, like Jelly sweets, Jams, juices, Gulkand, syrups, Honey Products, strawberry chikki and strawberry fudge, Homemade leather articles.
